The album was recorded over the course of one year at various studios. The original tracking sessions were done at Fiction Music Studios with a session or two at Sound Venture Productions and at Teletune (both in Ottawa). Additionally, some earlier sessions were done in Toronto at CVC Productions and at Cherry Beach. David produced the album and oversaw all the tracking, Chris Jones and Ryan Souliere engineered at Sound Venture, Ken Kanwisher engineered at Teletune, Ed Majkut engineered at CVC and Mike Filapov engineered at Cherry Beach. All the overdubbing, the mix and the mastering was done by David at Fiction Music Productions.
The drums were miked with Audio-Technica ATM-35s on toms, snares and bass drums, Sennheisser 421s on bass drums, Neumann TLM-103s and AKG C-414s on snares and Beyerdynamic MC740s on all overheads. The percussion was recorded using Neumann TLM 103s and KM 184s, AKG C-414s, Earthworks TC40Ks and Audio-Technica 4041s.
The basses were recorded direct through the Demeter or occassionally amped and miked through the Audio-Technica 4041s. The guitar amps were miked by AKG C-414s almost exclusively, except for the odd occassion were an Audio-Technica AT 4050 was used. The acoustic was miked with a Neumann TLM 103.
The tracks were recorded into Pro-Tools as SDII files and then transfered into Fiction's Mac-based Logic system for overdubs and mixing. FX units were a Lexicon 480L, TC-Electronics M-3000, an Eventide H-3000, and plug-ins from Focusrite, Renaissance, TC-Electronics and Waves. The mix was monitored through Mackie HR824s, routed through a Mackie 1604 from the Mac. The synth and sampler sub-mixes were handled by Mackies and Behringer mixers.
All the music was written by David Campbell except the lyrics to Brothers which were written by David Crawford. The full band arranged all the tunes except for Crystal Rain Suite which was written, performed and recorded by David.
